Ecosystem is a term that refers to the complex of individuals, groups, organizations and forces that constitute a human system. In the context of social mobility, the ecosystem is the environment in which the child grows up.

The ability of individuals to improve their circumstances – in terms of subsistence, housing, education, employment, health, social and family status, wellbeing and autonomy, and to change their station on the social ladder (hierarchy) over time, regardless of their background.
